[Picker 1965], 90: 'Three Latin compositions in MS 228 for four voices belong to a special category of "motets" based on classical Latin texts, in these cases passages from Vergil's 'Aeneid'. From a musical point of view they must be considered a variety of motet rather than chanson, for they possess the continuous polyphonic texture typical of the motet without the internal repetitions and recurrent rhythmic patterns that characterize the usual chanson of arount 1500.'
